My Experience with CBD Oil for my Dog
Timpanogos is one of the most prominent mountains in the United States. It has an imposing view from the Utah Valley. While it is not the biggest peak out there or even the biggest peak in Utah’s, Wasatch Front, it is the most iconic and one of the most traveled. The last three times I have hiked it a total of four people turned back before we even reached the 1/4 mark. The two times prior that I have taken dogs, they both kind of gave up and decided to rest when we were coming down, both of these dogs were less than 4 years of age.
Today was a little different, we weren’t going to hike to the metal shack on top where the guest book was, we were only going to hike to the stone cabin, and Emerald Lake. This is about 2/3 of the way to the top, but it is the steepest two-thirds. It was me, my daughter, Disco (a ten-year-old red heeler), and Vixen a 4-year-old blue heeler. My daughter decided a few days prior that she wanted to see the mountain goats which roam the mountain year-round and can be occasionally found in large numbers at the lake. I ordered the CBD Oil for Disco the week before and it arrived in time that I could give it a try.
We arrived at the trailhead a little before sunrise. I hadn’t slept at all the night before so we decided to take a nap for thirty minutes before starting the hike. I applied two pumps to the inner ear of Disco, he wasn’t fond of it and didn’t like the spraying in the ear. I had to hold him kind of steady to stop him from shaking it out, while I massaged it into his skin. I didn’t give any to Vixen as a sort of control sample. After the nap we began the grueling 7 miles 3500 ft elevation gain hike to Emerald Lake.
The 7 miles 3500 elevation gain is sort of misleading. A good two to three miles is pretty mellow. I didn’t expect the dogs to have much trouble on the way up, it is usually on the way down after several hours that dogs in the past have usually begun to struggle. It’s also the next day or later in the afternoon that the dogs won’t want to move. Anyone with a dog can tell the difference between “tired”, “sore”, or “tired & sore”.
We made it up to the top in 4 hours which wasn’t too bad considering, my daughter doesn’t hike if at all, I am out of shape and stopped hiking years ago. Disco hasn’t been on a legitimate hike or canyoneering for a couple of years. Vixen gets a daily dose of frisbee that lasts for about an hour. All in all 7 uphill miles in 4 hours seemed alright.
Unfortunately, there were no mountain goats at the top so we rested for another 30 to 45 minutes. The dogs rested in the shade for a few minutes and then spent the rest of the time investigating the basin. Besides being thirsty and hot, the dogs showed no signs of soreness or fatigue. I was struggling the most, then my daughter, then Vixen, and Disco seemed to have no issues.
The trip down, at least for humans, is far worse. My knees are shot, and I was currently wearing a knee brace from a July injury. Where I thought the down would go faster, it covered about the same amount of time. Vixen wanted to stop and rest often, but Disco kept up his habit of running back and forth between the first person and the last person in the line. As far as pain or joint discomfort went, it appeared that Disco, the oldest one of us (dog years) was affected the least. After a total of 9 hours on the mountain, he was still able to leap into my lifted jeep with oversize tires. For the day on the mountain, Green Pet Shops CBD Oil For Pets was rocking it. I wasn’t going to celebrate just yet, the test for soreness would come later in the evening or the next morning.
When Sunday morning rolled around my daughter and I were cursing each other across the living room from our own self-pity puddles of lactic acid build up and pain. Disco was casual and chill in the morning like he always is, and Vixen was aggressively trying to protect us from the tyranny of the ceiling fan. After another application to Disco’s ear, he laid on my chest for a while like he always does when I am slumped on the couch. I thought he had finally met his match until Vixen wandered in the room with a Tug-o-war rope. With a youthfulness that betrays his age, Disco was chasing Vixen around the house. There wasn’t a sign of soreness or discomfort.
I am really impressed with how much life this has seemed to give Disco, and how much it seemed to remedy his pain. It was like he never went on the hike at all and as a 10-year-old dog, he was able to keep up and even surpass a dog less than half his age. I can’t say 100% that it was all the CBD Oil, but the CBD Oil helped enough that I was justified in paying $49.99 for it.
